such a beautiful afternoon!

a couple of weeks ago i was in the grund (low part of luxembourg city) and i decided to make the most of the late afternoon sun by figuring out how to follow a little red line on my ipod map, which seemed to be a shortcut home. usually i take the elevator to ville haut (upper city) but there seemed to be a way through the grund. my very first task was to find out where the beginning of this shortcut was, as it seemed to start at a point i passed all the time but where i had never noticed a path before. it turned out that i had to climb a staircase in a tower at the end of Rue de la Tour Jacob and then follow a path along the fortifications for a little while.

someone's backyard? this was a dead-end

from there on i found myself on the most peaceful path above the grund, with purple wildflowers and a beautiful view of the city.

that's the center of town at the top there, and the grund below

not a single other person was around and i took my time enjoying the view from different look-outs. i spent a while staring at the viaduct and area below, trying to figure out how this path would actually take me to the ville haut area again.

handy map along the path

eventually i ended up at a staircase that led down and, as far as i could tell, became a path along a wall and then a winding staircase leading to Boulevard D'Avranches.

i live behind those shiny buildings

unfortunately there was some sort of construction on the stairs so they were closed, and i couldn't follow the whole red line.

disappointment :(

i had to retrace my steps and walk down into the grund then up again, but it was still a nice surprise to find such a relaxing way to walk home in the future :)

almost home
